The matching game

So in an earlier post I had mentioned making a few homemade games with the kids. We went out that very next day and purchased all the stuff to make two different ones. One is a matching game with the faces of our family. Here is the finished product: ( minus a set of grandparents I still have to do!)

We made ours a little larger than the original but I think it turned out pretty good. On the bottom left hand side you can see what they look like on the back. I let the kids paint them however they wanted and they loved it! After I mopodged the pictures and they dried, I stacked them up on top of each other and when I went to take them apart, they had stuck together! (obviously they weren't as dry as I had thought) Thus we are missing little chunks of our faces! ;-) It was fun to do though. We used this game when we were learning about the number two in our little homeschool this last week.  I think as the kids get better at finding the matches I will add more family members to make it a little more challenging.

The second game is kind of like pick up sticks, but not. I can't find any better way to describe it! Maybe a little like Ker-plunk? Anyway, here is a picture of its progress:
The Dowels still need to be cut in half (any one have a band saw?) and we are missing the wooden ring that goes in the middle. It was written down on the list when we went to get supplies, but somehow it was forgotten. That happens a lot when you try to take three kids to Wal-mart at the same time!
Here is a link to how it is supposed to work:

Although, the more I have looked at that game the more I think my dowels are too fat... I did get a pack with all different sizes originally, but thought it wasn't right. Yes, It even says it on the zrec's page, "sticks of three different diameters", Darn!  Oh well, I still have that original pack. Good thing I didn't get very far!  ;-)

If you want instructions to make either of these games check out Chasing Cheerios. I love it there! Have fun!

  1. Ashleigh, you may totally not remeber me but I just ran across your blog and wanted to say hi. It's Sarah Packard from CDA back in the day! I moved pretty shortly after you got into the ward but I still keep in touch with a few people from then. I'm in Rexburg right now and actually saw your in the grocery store once and didn't realize it was you until after the fact! BUT, if you'd like to see what I'm up to you can check out my blog: www.fairbanksfamilypod.blogspot.com.
I've three little kids too and so it looks like we're both crazy busy! Hope you're doing well and it was fun to find you!
